While nearly the entire state of Wisconsin remains unseasonably warm and despite over 3 inches of rain that fell last week which if cold enough, would have pounded most of Wisconsin with over 6 feet of snow, only a very small area of the upper mid west is enjoying  snow covered “winter fun” conditions. That’s right here in the Keweenaw.
The Keweenaw Peninsula is positioned perfectly to capture relatively warm Lake Superior water vapor and chill it on north winds into incredible amounts of nice, fluffy, natural lake effect snow.

3 feet of new Keweenaw snow

Over the past few days, temperatures have plummeted turning on mother nature’s lake effect snow machine.  The result is fresh snow on trails up a depth of 3 feet. More is on the way.

Now is the time to contact us for room reservations. If the weather forecast for the southern regions hold warmer and drier, we may have another total trail shutout like last year.  With only the U.P.  covered in fresh snow, demand for lodging will increase, so CONTACT US NOW.

DS Basecamp is located right on the trail head. Offering roomy, full equipped kitchens, two baths, three bedrooms and a comfort able living and dining area.  Use our reservation CONTACT FORM or call.
